Side Lunge

Put your feet parallel and hip-width apart. Hands should be comfortably placed to help you maintain your balance during the exercise. Stiffen the torso by gradually contracting your core and abdominal muscles and shift your weight onto your heels. Inhale and lightly drop the right leg, slowly stepping to the right while keeping the weight over your heels. Once your right foot reaches the floor, bend at the hips and continue shifting weight over the right foot until the shinbone is vertical to the floor. The left leg should be at near or full extension at the knee and weight distributed into the right hip. Keep the left foot flat on the floor as you shift weight into your right hip and alternate. Arms should assist you where necessary to help keep your balance. Then, simply exhale and push off firmly with the right leg, returning your body to your starting position. Repeat the movement for the opposite side.

Straight leg side plank

Grab an exercise mat and lie on your right side with your legs extended, place the left leg directly over the right one and stack your feet one on top of the other. The right elbow should be placed directly under your shoulder, while the head aligned with the spine and your hips and right knee kept in contact with the mat. While exhaling, gradually contract your abdominal / core muscles to stiffen your spine and then lift the hips and knees off the mat, while preserving contact with the side of your right foot and the head aligned with your spine. Elbows should remain positioned directly under the shoulders. Finally, inhale and slowly return yourself to the initial starting position. Alternate sides and repeat.

Downward-facing dog

Join your feet together behind you while kneeling on an exercise mat. Place your palms on the mat and position your hands shoulder-width apart. Slowly lift your body into a push-up position and place your feet to enable full extension of your body. Stiffen your torso by contracting your core and abdominal muscles groups to prevent any arching in your low back. While keeping a rigid torso and full extension in your arms and legs, slowly exhale and shift the weight backwards. Maintain the stiffness in the torso to prevent the back-arching tendency. Continue with the move until your body gets an inverted-V shape, keeping both arms and legs extended and a flat spine. Allow a slight bend in the knees if it is needed to achieve the inverted-V position. Finally, inhale and get your body back to the initial push-up position, maintaining the alignment of all your body segments.

Single-leg raise push-up

Kneel and join your feet together behind you and then gradually bend forward to position your hands and palms shoulder-width apart on the mat. Move your hands if it is needed to allow full extension of your body and counteract any bend at the hips or knees. Stiffen your torso and align your head with your spine. Slowly lower the body in the direction of the floor while maintaining a rigid torso and head aligned with your spine. Continue to lower your body downwards until your chest or chin touch the mat or floor. Your elbows should remain close to the sides of your body, then press upwards through your arms and as your press upwards, extend the left hip to lift your left foot off the floor, while keeping the knee extended. Do not allow your low back to sag or your hips and avoid rotation. Continue pressing until the arms are fully extended at the elbows and the left leg is extended off the floor. Hold the body shortly in this position briefly before returning to the initial position. Repeat this exercise with the other leg.

Front plank

Lie on your stomach with your elbows immediately next to your sides and directly under the shoulders, palms down and hands facing forward. Contract quadriceps to enable leg extension and dorsiflex your ankles. Contract core and abdominal muscles to stiffen your torso and then gradually lift the entire torso off the floor or mat, while avoiding any arching in your low back, hiking in your hips or bending in the knees. Keep your shoulders positioned directly over elbows with the palms facing downwards. Continue to breath while holding the body in this position for some time like 5-10 seconds. While your torso is stiffed and knees extended, slowly lower the body backwards in the direction of the mat or floor before relaxing.
